Week 19 - WTA Premier 5 ($2.1M) - Rome, Italy - Clay

Saved BP to hold there, and the very very partisan, almost oppressive, reactions of the crowd.
Vinci holds.
Jo serving for the match.

Confusing scoring in Italy - 'Gioco Vinci' - make up your mind - which one? JoKo or Vinci?

Brilliant job Jo :D :D

After Heather saw off Errani, and now this, Amanda C's status as our clay courter is under serious threat ;)

A second top 10 scalp of the year for Jo, and her 4th in total.
In the last year, she is 4-4 against the top 10! (4-5 lifetime).

More than the tennis - which was magical at times - it was the strength of character, mental fortitude and resilience shown in that second set when Vinci started to play well, and the crowd got 'interesting', that impressed me most today. Jo didn't shrink in the cauldron atmosphere, but overcame it all, even when her own levels dipped. Really mature and tough performance.

Superb

More cat and mouse in the second set, but exceptionally well played Jo. Look forward to seeing her in the women's top 10 soon, Jo certainly has the game - and mental attitude - for it.

Wow. Beating Vinci. On clay. In Rome. In straight sets. Wow.

Got to be happy with that, I don't think she's 100% happy with her footwork on this surface, but when you play like that it doesn't really matter. Picking up points during this stage of the season massive to keep up the momentum.

Our girls always beat Vinci in Rome in straight sets on clay. It was Jo's turn, after Heather in 2015.
