There was another break for JoKo, then a break against her, and so, another for JoKo. That last one, the ease and clarity with which she broke Larsson there was super; broke to love, every shot just put where the opponent wasn't, clean, simple winners. She's hitting the ball so low, and flat.
It's great!

That win is a significant improvement on her best ever scalp on clay; from WR 88 previously to WR 60 here today.

This is exiting. We have all been wondering about the new Jo's clay court calibre, and this is the first time we've seen any. Vinci next which barring health issues again should give us a better indicator.

Jo doing a Jo there, as per pre Oz open and IW/Miami sections of season, not performing well in Stuttgart and hampered by illness in Madrid, stepping it up at the big tournaments on this clay part of the season. I thought Jo would have a solid clay season, not her best surface, but she does have a loopy forehand and a decent kick serve, so has the ammunition to be effective on this surface. The bookies made this a 50/50 match, so this on paper is a statement performance.

Heather first on 2 at 10a.m. UK time, and JoKo attempying to send Vinci the way of Errani, and further sour Anglo-Italian relations, third after a late start on Centre.

Jo and Vinci are 9 and 10 in the Race.
