The winners of Naomi & Laura's Matches meet in the next round.
Heather would go on to play the winner of Konjuh v Shvedova.
Naomi missed out on a seeding by two spots, and is now ranked higher on live rankings than her seeded opponent, who has points to deduct from last year.
Good draws for Ms Broady and Ms Watson; less good draw for Ms Robson ... but then if Victoria Azarenka brought out the best in her, maybe a "bad" draw is actually "good"!
Great first round draw for Heather, getting a local wildcard. Another tough draw for Laura but she did have a good run of draws prior to last week. Good draw for Naomi to avoid a clay-courter and would be great if Naomi and Laura could meet in R2 but unlikely both make it.
It's a good matchup for Laura, as she always plays well against McHale, but its mitigated by the fact that Mchale's in good form, great draw for Hev, and looks like Naomi's opponent hasn't played alot of good tennis recently, so hopeful there.
I'm so hoping that our girls will have a good week after last week's disappointments. If Laura can hold on to her form from last week McHale won't be an issue, and the other matches are definitely winnable.
In MD of WTA events, or GS:
11 June 2012 - Birmingham - R32 - Heather Watson d. Elena Baltacha 7-6(5) 6-3
20 June 2011 - Wimbledon - R128 - Anne Keothavong d. Naomi Broady 6-2 6-4
In Qualifying at the same levels it was obviously last year, for example, when Tara played Gabi in Wimbledon qualifying R1.
As to which match exactly was last played in that case, I can't (or can't be bothered to, perhaps ) say.
