Rio Olympics 2016

Why do they bother ringing a bell on the last lap of the cycling team sprint - it's not as if anyone is going to loose count.

Amazing performance in the women's 10K blasted the best of the best extraordinary performances by Wang in 1993, presently enjoying David Millars autobiography "Racing through the Dark" which is packed full of amazing extraordinary performances. Athletics is what it is.

 The same reason they do it in athletics.

An aid for the spectators and a reminder to athletes as they can be so "in the zone" they lose track of where they are.

It's all going exceptionally well so far and plenty more gold medals to come especially in the sailing.

Just so happy for Justin Rose. He embraced the Olympics when so many other golfers couldn't be bothered. It was a stated goal for him and he has taken the gold medal. Brilliant stuff.

 I think with the Golf gold and now the 2nd gymnastics gold in the last few moments, I think we are now ahead of China (equal on gold but more silver) - unless they have sneaked a gold somewhere.

We are indeed now at No. 2 in the medal table, though I'm not sure if Kenny's gold in the velodrome is included in the BBC total. If not, we could be clear at No. 2 with 16 Gold to China's 14, if Andy can see off DelPo

14 golds does include Jason Kenny's gold. There is though also a guaranteed gold to come for Giles Scott in the Finn Class sailing, well evidently as long as he sails the final race.

I think that China will come back past us in the latter few days once rowing, cycling and sailing are over, but it's still looking like being a great overall performance.

Oh yes. Horsey dancing strikes again. Big congrats to Charlotte Dujardin and of course Valegro, on yet another gold medal performance.

and Nile and Amy get bronzes in gymnastics for individual apparatus - previously almost unheard of for Brits.

Interesting stat on Twitter.

GB Gymnastic Olympic Medals:

1896 - 2012 = 8

2016 = 7

Not a bad haul at all this time around.
