Thanks that was an immense performance today, gives us a shout in the medley relay now as well, on the flip side James Guy was disappointing, he's in the final but it's looking tough to medal. All the Brits have swum well so far except for Guy, and he's pivitol for alot of events. I think we'll probably have a couple of fourths tonight, maybe Hannah Miley can squeak the bronze.

Phil, absolutely love the swimming commentators and 'team' - really frank, not sugar-coating everything, to the point - and yet still nice and friendly. Could do with more like it.

I agree much better, prepared to be critical without going over the top. Poor Hannah Miley, I thought she had the bronze wrapped up, but sometimes sport is cruel. Thought James Guy swam much better in the final, but he royally messed up his tactics.

I see that Russia has received a blanket ban from the Paralympic games. Congrats to the IPC for having the cojones to do what the IOC should have done for the main games. They should have been banned as well, with independent Russian athletes that could prove their "clean" status allowed to compete under the Olympic flag.

I thought they were going ban more Russian Olympians here, but they copped out, I still think the tennis players were Ok to go, but maybe a blanket ban in hindsight was the correct call.

I was enthralled by the fencing, although it wasn't very easy to follow(rules wise and visually)

Yes, the 'right of way' thing confused me a bit. I'd be cheering a hit and indeed the green light would flash but then they'ed say something like the attack had initially been thwarted so hed lost his right.

Brilliant from Adam Peaty. Someone mentioned he has further motivation with what he refers to as 'project 56' and it was commented that was no doubt to go sub 57. The way he's been slashing through the 57.s I wouldn't be surprised if he thinks he can one day go sub 56!

Great too for Jazz Carlin to get silver after missing London and she just looked so so happy.

Even the monstrosity of their kit tops didn't really deflect from enjoying their ceremonies.

Adam's start used to be his Achilles heel, now he's sorted that, he's dropped nearly a second off his own WR. Just an unbelievable talent, arguably our best ever swimmer based upon his domination/ world records in an individual event. Great to see Jazz pick up her silver, I honestly thought she would be around the 4th position before the heat swim.

Disappointment for James Guy who seems to have been affected by the pressure, his performances now mean we have very little chance of medalling in the 4*200 relay for which we are world champions.

Medley relay looking good, for at least a bronze hopefully.

Bah. James Guy much better tonight and we had the competitive 200 metres freestyle final with James could be gold, could be fourth that Phil originally talked about before things started. The annoying bit was James was fourth, though just 0.3 seconds off his best. Credit to Chad le Clos for going off like a seeming madman in lane 1 ( James was on the other side in lane 8 having just made the final by 0.01 seconds ) and refusing to die as the commentators were sure he would, but hung in for silver.

But much more encouraging that James can play a good part in the relays and he himself says he feels much more settled and determined to do a job for the guys.

Yes James was much better last night, actually swam a well paced race, but as he said afterwards, I think he's found it hard dealing with his 1st Olympics and the way others have stepped up their game.
4*200 will be tough to medal though, as our other 3 swimmers are not swimming as well as last year either.

Brilliant swim by Siobhan, who is a major talent, just about our best butterfly/freestyle/breastroke swimmer, but she just concentrates on the one individual event where if it wasn't for Hosszu ( who's just a beast in the pool ) we would be looking at a potential gold medal. Have to say I was disappointed by the Beebs commentators who were basically saying she should take on Hosszu in the final, and NOT swim her own race, to try and win Gold, poor advice for me as Hosszu is unbeatable, she tried it last year in the World's and nearly didn't medal at all, we want her to medal, and it should be a silver. The only caveat I would put to that, would be if Hosszu trys to swim the heats and semis of the 200m Butterfly, which takes place only 45 minutes before the final of the 200IM, then I think it would be worth more of a risk, but always swim your own race, is my advice.
