When did Kyle's family move to Beverley from Joburg? Are his parents South African? I've never really looked into it.
I believe they moved when he was 3.
So he's certainly a Yorkshire lad.
Not sure about his parents.
My understanding is that his parents were originally from Britain but were living and working in South Africa at the time of his birth.
Kyle's dad was born in Wales and his mom is South African. Kyle's dad grew up in Wales, Zimbabwe and South Africa. Kyle's family moved to the UK when Kyle was about 2 or 3.
Thank you for the clarification. Not that it really matters in my view, he grew up in Britain and so he is British.

Just to correct any misconception, which RJA's comment seems to highlight, I was not in any way questioning Kyle's right to call himself British, merely his "Yorkshire" roots, which for me, as a Yorkshirewoman born & bred (old North Riding stock), is a very different matter (I'm Yorkshire before I'm English & English before I'm British!)! All the comments since I made it serve only to strengthen my perception. Merely living in Beverley, a place with which I am not exactly unacquainted, since I went to uni in Hull, doesn't cut it in my book.

As a Welshman born and bred I say Yorkshire's loss is my gain, by virtue of his father I am happy to claim him as the new Welsh Number 1! To be fair, we also claimed Vinny Jones so we are not terribly choosy.
And there was I yesterday, worried about Kyle's form. That sounds like a cracking win today and now a very winnable final tomorrow.
Off to watch the rerun on the Livestream site.
Volandri is a half decent challenger level clay courter but he isn't even close to Kyle's level. Anything other than a fairly comfortable win would have been a surprise.
While, with his abilities on clay I think I would still have liked to see Kyle take on qualifying in at least one of the Masters ( there's players with rather less ability on the surface than him giving it a go ), he's certainly getting matches and wins under his belt and continuing to push his ranking up, and I guess that may be a short term aim, and less risky option ( although he might have done very well ), with regards to the Olympics. Keeping his nose ahead of that pesky Evo too
