That sounds like a very good win from Alex, but I always struggle to get excited when results like that come against another Brit - specially in the 1st round.
I always think it is a little bit of a lottery when a player (or both) have just flown half way round the world. It often takes a few days to adjust to the new time zone, sleep patterns, a different climate, etc. Given how consistent Lloyd has been recently I am pretty sure that had this match been in Europe the score would have been much closer.

I agree. Perhaps if they had know the draw in advance, they could have had a play-off in Europe and one of them could have saved on the airfare.
Note that Alex has won his Q2 match now, it wasn't straightforward by any means: QR2: (q3) Alex Ward WR 295 beat Chung Yunseong (KOR) WR 816 (CH = 768 earlier this month) 3-6 6-4 7-5
Plays Matosevic in the FQR
FQR: (q3) Alex Ward WR 295 vs Marinko Matosevic (AUS) WR 375 (CH 39 25/02/15)

Also that in the main draw Dan is unseeded, though based on his new Mon rank, he would be 5th seed. Potentially faces Sam Groth (3) in the second round. Liam faces Michael Berrer (8) in R1.
I feel I butted in SC, and then didn't finish the job...
R1: Dan Evans WR 123 (soon to be 97!!!) vs Alexander Kudryavtsev WR 178 (CH 117 2/2/15) R1: Liam Broady WR 288 (259 on Monday) vs (8) Michael Berrer (GER) WR 115 (CH 42 25/5/10)

Not sure I follow you, Michael. Main draw already recorded, albeit with current rankings, on the previous page...

Whilst it's good to see an Irish and Arsenal footballing legend popping up in the main draw here, might I suggest it would be more appropriate for him to play on the vets tour?

Correct spelling of the surname in question in my main draw post on the previous page.
Oh bugger. I thought 4/11 for Michael Berrer to beat a 60 year old was pretty generous odds and so bet big on him. Now I find out that he is playing that talented young lefty from Stockport
Lloyd and Alex are currently playing their doubles, against Chung/Kwon, and have just broken to lead *4-2
I would guess this is important to the lads. Prize money is a handy $360 each to be in the doubles but it also grants them hospitality to be in the main draw. As we follow the points and question their schedules we (well okay, I) often overlook how hard financially it is for many players to make this trips.
As I type, they have the 1st set in the bag 6-3 and have broken start of the 2nd. Looking good!
