One of Kasatkina and Siegemund retired in the dubs - both are in MD, so that LL spot for Heather might have opened up.

I can't see Siegemund in the draw.

She goes by the alias 'qualifier'.

Qualifiers yet to be placed. Siegemund got through qualifying beating Madison Brengle in the final round.

Oh, I though they were both MD outright. Kasatkina is still in the MD and in a reasonably nice section as well.

If Siegemund withdraws, Heather will be up against Kuznetsova. I know which place I'd prefer to fill if either is available.

If there's a flu epidemic, a food poisoning outbreak, or these here voodoo dolls actually work this time, Naomi is now LL2, after Brengle in the queue.

So Heather plays Gavrilova and if she had won today she would have played Mladenovic. Is she better off as a result of losing?

A very strange state of affairs: that Laura - ranked 426 and in no sort of form - gets a pass to the Main Draw; and Heather - ranked 56 and currently much the better player - has to (sort of) qualify.

But you could say the same for probably the majority of the qualifiers - British or otherwise.

That one got away. Had an advantage set point at 5-4* and then multiple game points at *5-5
