Lord help me for saying this, but in V's defence, he was saying that Quentin WAS playing awfully (when he posted it an hour ago), not that he would for the whole match.
Indeed. And however well James was playing in the first set the score does suggest Halys wasn't playing very well ( not that Jaggy was impressed full stop ). And certainly last year ( and I believe previously ) the young man's form could be very variable, Anyway, his resilience and his winning or not winning the match is by the way.

Halys has continued to have an extremely variable level of play this year. He is currently going through an awkward transition from futures to challengers, mixing good performances and fine wins with bad performances and poor defeats. Regardless of that I don't think there is any doubt that he will end up in the top 100, and probably quite a lot higher, and most likely sooner rather than later. In spite of a similarity in ranking he is a much better player than Michon and Hemery.
I watched Halys play a few times last year and today against James he seemed a different player to the one from last year. That said he was still good enough to beat James. James timing seems to be well out I think today was a case of James losing rather than anything special from Halys.

No arguments from me on that. It was simply the case that Halys, unlike Michon and Hemery, was always likely to beat James while he is playing as badly as he is at the moment.
