Week 17 - Challenger ($50,000) - Tallahassee Tennis Challenger, Tallahassee, Fla, USA (green clay)

Nice to see him doing well, fairly traumatic last 9 months for him with the highs of Wimbledon and a top 100 rank and then his coach's illness, it can't have been easy.

QF:  (2) Dean O'Brien & Donald Young (RSA/USA) CR 251 (125+126) defeated (WC) Morgan Phillips & James Ward UNR by 4-6 6-1 [16-14]

Looks like a competitive MTB... hmm

Watched the last few points. James Ward looking better than I've seen him in a while (not that I've seen him much ....) All good practice.

Just to add the congrats to James.

NB The Frat shouldn't be too upset (about getting knocked out earlier) - he's just got the Roland Garros MD wildcard so life's OK for him for a bit.....

Excellent start - seems to be playing quite nicely. Had chances for a double break.

First two sets have been split with Wardy winning the first 6-1 but losing the 2nd 6-4

It's time for a deciding set.

He can't be that bad if he's taken a set off Dino (6-4).

Er, you were saying?

QF:  Calvin Hemery (FRA) WR 223 (defeated James Ward WR 180 by 1-6 6-4 6-4  bleh

You underestimated the Frog's resilience, Vandenburg - badly! furious

Pity.  Had Dino won, he'd have faced the Irish qualifier, James McGee, in the semi... hmm

Lord help me for saying this, but in V's defence, he was saying that Quentin WAS playing awfully (when he posted it an hour ago), not that he would for the whole match.

Halys didn't impress at all seemed James head went down wasn't happy with a couple of calls. Another one that got away today he really should have won that.

I am guessing you were distracted when you posted this (I wonder whywink) as James had beaten Hemery in the L16 and this was the QF against Halys.

Indeed. And however well James was playing in the first set the score does suggest Halys wasn't playing very well ( not that Jaggy was impressed full stop ). And certainly last year ( and I believe previously ) the young man's form could be very variable,  Anyway, his resilience and his winning or not winning the match is by the way.
