Week 17 - Challenger ($50,000) - Tallahassee Tennis Challenger, Tallahassee, Fla, USA (green clay)

And today was a very bad serving day for Donaldson, along with everything else. He was extremely subdued as he lost 4 and 3 to Hemery.

Donaldson played Bedene recently and when things started to get away from him he was very vocal between points, beating himself up and moaning about his play. Very much like Andy on one of his walkabouts in what Paul Annacone likes to call the "mumbletank". If James can start fast there is a decent chance Donaldson will beat himself.

Donaldson is frequently like that but it doesn't always have a negative impact on his play. Last week he beat himself up relentlessly on his way to a good QF victory over Gerald Melzer.

The big thing for him at the moment is his first serve percentage. When that is good he is tough to beat but some days he is well below 50% first serves in.

 Sounds a lot like Murray.

Bangoura (Q) or Halys, not Frat Boy (4), who lost to the latter, in the quarters.

Excellent news. Really pleased for Wardy following such a tough run recently.

Really pleased to see James put two wins on the bounce together. Basilashvili (5) is the last remaining seed in James' half of the draw, hoping Wardy can go a bit deeper still

Very good to see. Would be great if things could really consistently turn back in an upwards direction for James.

And James McGee very obligingly removed him by 3 & 0 earlier!  wink

Halys it is.

QF:  James Ward WR 180 vs Quentin Halys (FRA) WR 202 (CH = 169 in February)

Has to be said its a good opportunity now to get to the business end of the tournament, though of course Halys is no walkover. Just think James needs a big week to kick start his campaign and possibly also for his own motivation, to remind him what he's in it for so to speak
