Week 17 - WTA International ($250K) - Rabat, Morocco - Clay

With today's win, Laura has now won a senior match on all 6 continents (excluding Antarctica!). This includes Fed Cup, so she might have to play Bogota to complete the set at tour level.

Does anyone know who the last British Woman was to win a tour level match in Africa? I haven't found one, though I don't have an efficient way of searching!

The last person to win one was the last person to play one, well, in singes, anyway*.

Annie K played the Moroccan tournament in 2010, when it was held in Fes.
She beat Julie Coin in R1, 6-3 0-6 6-4, and Carla Suarez Navarro in R2, 5-6 RET, before losing to Alizé Cornet in the QF, 5-7 2-6
She also made QF of the doubles with Jarmila Gajdosova/Groth/Gajdosova/Wolfe.

*Strictly speaking, the last Brits to play a tour level match in Africa were Joss & Anna last year in Marrakech, but they lost in the first round of the doubles.

Edit: minor changes for clarity

Thanks - typically I checked pretty much all of the likely candidates except Anne!

Bacsinszky finally labours past Kozlova, so this is your Laura alarm.

After ceding a break from 40-0 up, Laura is struggling to get into gear now.

Could have been a break up, instead a break down. Failed to attack the net when in control on bp then went to pieces from 40-0 to lose her serve. *1-4

Agreed. Failed to break at 1-1* 40-15*, and next game failed to hold from *40-0. She was striking the ball quite nicely until that point.

Laura's got no confidence at all. Long discussion at the end of the set.

Pep talk from her coach - hope it's been useful.

Not really useful.. He should have concentrated more on relaxing her instead of 'getting on her case'. A bit of humour or more 'warmth' of manner would have helped much more.

Laura gets a break shortly after being broken, this 2nd set should be more competitive.

Poor Laura she's so locked up now it must feel horrible.

Hopefully she'll get a bit of luck that will relax her so she can play more freely.

Agree. You only had to look at her face or hear the sound of her voice to realise how depressed she was.

Commentator also mentioned that Laura was shaking her wrist, fair to say it's difficult to see any positives coming out of that match.
