I know his ranking still suggests he could be the better candidate but why not pick someone on a bit of form. But to be honest regardless of who they had picked someone would have moaned, so i wont open that can of worms again! :)
But the Tournament Director's job is not that of the LTA.
He's not there to decide who would get most value out of the wildcard in the long-term.
His job is to please the public and sponsors and run a successful tournament and if he knows that James is a 'crowd favourite' then that's a big factor, as part of his job.
James has been fortunate with wild cards the last couple of years and I can understand why you may think he shouldn't have been offered one here. The audience will not be made up of avid Brit followers though, he will be known to most, remembered for Davis cup and his run to the semis. He's also capable of getting his game together on such a stage so, I wish him the best and hope it kick starts his year.
Who are likely to get them for Ilkley challenger? Evo, Kedders and Dino are obviously at Queen's that week. Would Liam. Lloyd, Alex be likely? Or Bryden?

Alex Bogdanovic stopped getting Wild Cards at a similar ranking, so perhaps James....Bogdanovic similarities could be drawn here
In all seriousness this weeks Bangkok challenger may prove to be more important than we thought given the progress of Lloyd and Alex. Likewise Manchester and Surbiton.
