I'm probably more familiar with Dan's opponent than most as I reside in Oz but I was just looking at his career earnings.1.9 million, turned pro in 2003 divide that by 13 doesn't sound a lot for a CH of 39 and i think he was top 100 for a while. although I do remember he hardly ever won a grand slam match. Anyway, come on Dan!

Wow he's 30! I'd never really noticed him until around 3 years ago so had just assumed he was around 25!

Well Done Dan! 6-3 7-5. He just keeps no putting in the professional performances and getting the results. I suspect his semi will be much tougher though!

New Evo on course for the title and possibly one of the last few challengers he plays.

QF:  (6) Dan Evans WR 123 defeated (Q) Marinko Matosevic (AUS) WR 375 by 3 & 5  biggrin

QF:  Liam Broady WR 279 defeated Amir Weintraub (ISR) WR 198 (aged 29) by 5 & 3  biggrin

*****

All the oldies are crawling out of the woodwork here & the young(-ish) guns are shooting 'em down (so far)!

SF:  (8) Konstantin Kravchuk (RUS) WR 125 (= CH - he's 31) vs Liam Broady WR 279

Kravchuk saw off Ito (3) in three sets.

The top seed, Berankis, or "Stakh" (5) for Dan in the semi.

Dan has lost a tight match to both of those guys in the past so has to have a chance. Berankis won his last 2 tournaments - one on clay last week and hard before that! Stak retired from his last 2 tournaments having won matches at both before doing so. He lost tight matches to Wawrinka in his two tournaments before that. It will be a step up for Dan next match an an very interesting test.

Also is he looking like 2 matches from top 100 still?

Evans' low point in the rankings last year was 772nd on the first Monday in May. This year he'll be over 650 places higher.

He could potentially just sneak in with the trophy here, but a tournament win would (I think) pretty much seal a place in the MD  for Wimbledon, after any withdrawals etc

Judging from live-tennis.eu Dan would be 96 or 97 in the world if he took the title here - has he had another tweet from Andy yet?!

Wouldnt it be great if he could sneak into wimby as a DA. Either way obviously he will be in the MD but it would free up a space

It's the "new Dan" - there I've said it ( sending Evo into reverse gear - hope not ! ). And great to see such form from Liam too. Well done, guys !
