It has only just struck me but Matosevic's service action is a bit like a half hearted Becker imitation.
Couple of nice volley winners from Dan just now.
2-1 30-30

Dan needs to be careful not to leave his pacey cross court forehands at all short as MM is hitting some lovely forehands off them when he does.

Having said that he just hit one wide to concede another break and the set  :)

Dan served really well that set - on first serve - but really struggling behind second - has won only 3 of 15 points. Gets broken first game second set and throws his racket to the grown as he looses the game. He won exactly half the points against serve that last set though.

Dan has been in every MM service game until the last and was almost let into that one by MM missing an absolute sitter then another forehand but just sneaked a hold to 30.

Really enjoyed that first set - good tennis from both - but not much between them, although Dan took it quite comfortably in the end ....

Dan hits a couple of aces in a row to take his average back to one per service game and completes a good hold for 1-2*

Did anyone notice what was leading to all the lost points behind second serve? I suspect it was mostly errors on second shots etc. as I dont recall many return winners. I suspect that if Dan just gets the ball back slow and deep in those situations he will win a lot more of those points.

I'm probably more familiar with Dan's opponent than most as I reside in Oz but I was just looking at his career earnings.1.9 million, turned pro in 2003 divide that by 13 doesn't sound a lot for a CH of 39 and i think he was top 100 for a while. although I do remember he hardly ever won a grand slam match. Anyway, come on Dan!
