That was a fabulous performance from Dan!!! Most remarkable was his serve (apart from the game where he broken in the 2nd set) never seen him hit as many service winners! Focussed and determined at all times, great point construction, pinpoint accuracy on his aggressive forehands. If he can maintain this level, top 100 will be a formality
Brilliant win from Dan, and I was very impressed by his fighting back. After one poor service game by Dan in the second set brought them back to level terms, he then kept holding comfortably to reach the tie break. In that Berankis struck lucky early on, particularly with one net cord, and went two mini breaks up early. But Dan dug in, fought back, and won his first match point, upon which Berankis duly smashed his racket. He wasn't expecting to lose. Good luck to Dan in the final, if he can play like this again, he should do well.
Worth noting that Berankis was on a 13 match winning streak having only dropped a single set in those matches. For Evo to not only win in straights but to deservedly win in straights was a tremendous performance.
As said above top 100 seems a formality but who wants to limp over the line with second round or quarter final points (or relying on other results) so come on Dan lets smash into the top 100 in style.
Point I just wrote disappeared into the ether... Thought the match was brilliant from Dan, and was very impressed by his fighting back in the second set. After one poor service game from Dan levelled the set, he then held his serve comfortably to the tie break. After being unlucky early on, especially with one Berankis net cord, thought Dan did extremely well to dig in, retrieve the two mini-breaks and win on the first match point - where Berankis duly smashed his racket. He wasn't expecting to lose. Great from Dan, and hope he can maintain the intensity and level of play in the final. If he does, he will be hard to beat. It was a very, very good performance from him today.
Now the first post has appeared.... thankfully Dan's play had less errors.

Indeed be great way to enter the top 100. Clearly much less significant, but shows how his year ( or more precisely, from last November ) has been, would be race top 50 too.

I see the finals is not before 08:30 BST on Sunday. Assuming Dans main aim on this Far East swing was to crack the top 100. If this happens in the first few tournaments. I can see him pulling out of Bangkok to get himself ready for the grass season, probably starting with Manchester challenger.
Quality performance, a win tomorrow and it's time to reset expectations for the next 18 months, top 50 and a season ticket in the posh seats at Villa Park. (£425!!!)
I have always loved watching Dan Evans play even when his ranking was in the 300 or so he is the most talented British player next to Andy Murray great that he has knuckled down to show his potential
After THAT match against Nishikori, I thought this moment would come a lot sooner. Injuries really are a cruel bitch, but to rise from 772 to the brink of the top 100 in just shy of 12 months is quite an incredible feat. Whether he does it tomorrow or not, it's only a matter of time now and I'm excited to see what damage he can do on the main tour once that top 100 landmark is reached.
