Roland Garros wildcards

It's not all bad for Hesse, she does have a MDWC into Strasbourg this week!

I know the depth of French men's tennis is very good, but I was still quite surprised to see that all 9 male French QWCs won their Q1 match, that's pretty impressive.

By the way, little shout out for young Else Jacquemot, only born in 2003, who won her first round match at RG qualis yesterday

6-3 6-1 against a player ranked 213

And just to add, too, that young Cori Gauff, born 2004, also got a win in her QR1 match today.

They're SO young, the two of them

(A little tear too for Tessah And. who had match points against Marino but couldn't quite get the win - she's had a lot of stick for getting a WC (partly from Hesse fans) and so nearly proved them wrong.....)

And four won their second and are through to the FQR

Yeah, I was looking at that earlier, it really is impressive. They have 6 overall and one France vs France match so a guaranteed qualifier there. Obviously a completely different current landscape, but I was trying to think what would be the equivalent for us and it's so hard, you just can't imagine a Glasspool vs Klein Wimbledon FQR can you?

So there were those 2 youngsters you mentioned earlier in the women's side, one French and one American. Depending on who ends up getting the MDWCs of course, we probably should be in line to have a bit more joy in Wimbledon women's Qs this year, certainly more than last year as there should be more credible (or rather actually ready) entrants this year you'd think.

The two girls are both playing at the same time - interesting to watch bits of each live - I know Cori's game quite well but have never seen Elsa before.

And, yes, it will be very interesting to see how our girls fare in the Wimbly qualis - I agree, far more chance than the lads, you'd think, for a pleasant surprise or two (although maybe the men will come good - would love to know where Jack D and George L are in their tennis preparations).

Was just about to post about this CD, Jacquemot is the main match on Eurosport with commentary from one of the ex Sky Barry's, and she's more than holding her own.

Juvan is a bit older than those 2, but is still a young talent and a clay specialist, so that Gauff match was an interesting one on paper.

Tx, AV. I didn't realise how young Juvan still was - only born 2000 (as you say, not a 'baby' like the others but young nonetheless).

And wilcard Muller has just booked his berth in the main draw, which is lovely

Beating Troicki - which makes it even better!

Super R1 win by 2002-born Diane Parry over Lapko. WTA 102. Only age 16.

Add: As Ace V says on the main draw thread

Serena J put up a bit of fight in the first set against Swiatek, a number of breaks and was back on serve at *3-4, but Iga has kind of run away with it from that point. Second set only lasted 20 mins.

And after the qualifier wildcard beat Norrie yesterday, Corentin Moutet, MD wildcard, age 20, has just put out the 19th seed.

Brilliant win today from wildcard Antoine Hoang, over Verdasco.

The lad played some superb tennis.

Brilliant stuff.
