Claire has had major problems with 'ruptured ligaments in her wrist'.
More importantly, I think, for her, is that she says that - with the sudden drop in ranking because of the injury - she's no longer got any money coming in (from prize money or any sponsorship), she's 30, used to having a trainer, coach, physique guy etc. all traveling with her, and now she can't afford any of that, and she's all over the place in how to cope and what to do......
Thanks CD for the human interest angle. For Claire, it seems especially galling, having been so close to the top 100 before her injuries began, there must be some sense of feeling that something was left incomplete, and that there is still something that could be achieved if only... but with age and the circumstances you describe, it will be hard to get there, and, perhaps, even harder to finally admit that it will never come. Good luck to her.
As for Freya, well done Another tough proposition up next in the form of someone who was once a fearsome Brit-basher at this level - though we've evened the score up a bit now. R2: Freya CHRISTIE (GBR) [3] 378 defeated Claire FEUERSTEIN (FRA) 631 6-4 6-1
QF: Freya CHRISTIE (GBR) [3] 378 vs. Diana MARCINKEVICA (LAT) [6] 486 (CH 196 04/2014) H2H: 0-1 2015 Woking, UK - $25K - Hard - FC (WC) - QF, DM won 6-3 6-2
Edit: Add Diana's seeding

Hope the singles goes as easily for Freya as the doubles against Marcinkevica did!
The SF opponents thrashed the third seeds in the QF
R1: Christie/Simmonds (GBR/RSA) [1] defeated (WC) Fafaliou/Miklova (GRE/CZE) 6-0 6-1
QF: Christie/Simmonds (GBR/RSA) [1] defeated Marcinkevica/Parnaby (LAT/AUS) 6-0 6-2
SF: Christie/Simmonds (GBR/RSA) [1] vs. Bekker/Serban (RUS/ROU)
QF: Freya CHRISTIE (GBR) [3] 378 lost to Diana MARCINKEVICA (LAT) [6] 486 (CH 196 04/2014) 6-2 4-6 3-6
Progress from their last meeting, but I'm sure she'll be disappointed.
Some consolation for Freya, as they cruise into the doubles final; a chance for a fourth title.
SF: Christie/Simmonds (GBR/RSA) [1] defeated Bekker/Serban (RUS/ROU) 6-4 6-2
F: Christie/Simmonds (GBR/RSA) [1] vs. Savinykh/Sotnikova (RUS/UKR) [2]
