Probably right not to get too carried away as her opponent was in woeful form, but still other than the Tig match, a more encouraging spell for Laura, in particular the serve looking much better.
I had the sense recently that this was the comeback proper, she was finally setting out a schedule and aims ( maybe say residual wrist scar tissue issues subsiding and / or there just comes a time that this just has to be it ), and some performances weren't bad so like some I had some encouragement.
But what it needed was a WIN to give her some confidence and push her on. It is very unlikely to be smooth going from now, but one nice step for Laura ...
Laura had a very kind draw, given that she and Koukalová were both on 5-match losing streaks, but to win at all (and do so that convincingly) must give her a big confidence boost.
In fact, Koukalová (then Zakopalová) was the last player Laura had beaten in a WTA main draw (Beijing 2013) - I only noticed that because I'd checked when somebody had asked me the day before the draw who the last player she had beaten in a WTA main draw was! LOL

ALF is generally good on clay (surprising for an 80's extra terrestrial), her win/loss is in line with other surfaces. She took a set off Serena at Roland Garros last year. She has just two Top 100 wins on clay in her career. JoKo only has one though.
