Koukalova has had a dreadful 2016 so far...all losses apart from 3 qualie wins in St Petersburg...and is #147 in the Road to Singapore list; last time out she lost to the world #264.

If Laura is going to chalk up some wins, this is a chance to get started...

The H2H is 1-0, with Laura winning 7-6 (3) 4-6 6-1 in the WTA Mandatory tournament in Beijing 3 years ago.

Laura's recent run of matches hasn't been ideal in her circumstances - 2 weeks between each match and different conditions (Hard to Green Clay to Red Clay).

Hopefully this will be the start of getting more consistent matches in similar conditions, even if red clay is far from her best surface. I remember getting up at something like 5am to watch Laura's past match against Koukalova (then Zakopalova) - still Laura's last WTA main draw win.
