This is when things can get a bit silly. It is a very weak draw here, and Liam would have easily made the cut for the main draw had he entered. But he didn't, and is afforded the luxury of still entering qualifying and picking up an easy five points when it's only eight points for a R1 winner. It's unfair on the players who actually went through the process of entering.
The qualifier spots are either against one of the top two seeds or one of two Koreans ranked outside the top 300.

Maybe but what could be changed to avoid such an occurrence ? Ban late entrants ? Often challenger draws will be very strong with the 3 or 5 points seemingly very hard earned and folk sometimes suggesting that FQR losers should get points, It is virtually impossible to avoid 'anomalies' in such a huge range of tournaments, and while there are little bits and pieces in the ranking system that I sometimes question too, to me on the whole the fundamentals seem pretty well in place.
Nice ( or should be ) for Liam, but kinda just is at it is.
Kim beat Liam 3 & 1 in Manila Challenger qualifying in January - that was a shocker at the time and a result he's hopefully in a good position to avenge now that he's started to get wins under his belt this year.
