Katie Swan is top seed for the second Junior Masters in Chengdu, which takes the form of a knock-out competition for 8 players, starting on Friday, with losers playing off for minor positions. There is a $160,000 prize fund in travel grants (each player guaranteed $7,000) plus wildcards for pro tournaments at stake. There should be streaming available.
The ITF build-up ( http://www.itftennis.com/juniors/home.aspx ) has focused on attitudes to pandas, but there are daily detailed profiles of all the players - Katie's will be the last one tomorrow
Draw
(1) Katie Swan (GBR) v Miriam Kolodziejova (CZE)
Charlotte Robillard-Millette (CAN) v Tereza Mihalikova (SVK)
This tournament is for the top 8 juniors at the end of last year, so some of them are no longer juniors - hence they can't offer junior ranking points, and its not an open pro tournament so they can't offer senior ranking points.
The boys and girls winners get $15,000 and first pick from the pool of wildcards that have been donated by ATP/WTA/ITF events.
Quite a few of the top juniors at the end of last year have not accepted invitations. It actually works out quite nicely for Katie to stay in China and use her JE in the 50k and then play qualifiers in the 25k.
For the 10 seconds the stream stayed connected, it was 5-5.
There is a live blog of the matches here if the stream isn't working.
