Maybe Alex is thinking it might be easier to chase points that might get him to Wimbledon qualies. The fields will be weaker on hard court challengers over the next few weeks. Makes sense as he doesn't have a chance of making French Open anymore. That may also be why he pulled out of the futures over the last 3 weeks as that ship had sailed.
I can't imagine that Alex need have any worries about not making Wimbledon qualifying as I would certainly think he will get a Q WC ( and will have to produce some very big results to be near a MD one ).
Pity that he couldn't really push on to at least a chance of French Open qualifying just when he broke the top 300 and it looked at least interesting given as spaced alludes he does play so much on clay and his abilities on the surface.
Looking very much like Aljaz has missed the cut in Madrid, he is just a couple of spots out of the Main Draw now but I doubt there will be any further withdrawals with the draw set to happen shortly and he did not sign up for qualifying. Last years points for winning the Rome challenger due off in a week and if he does not start playing more regularly on the tour he is going to need to drop back to challengers to maintain his ranking. His scheduling choices on clay, his best surface, are odd to say the least.
I would have expected Kyle to enter qualifying for at least one of the clay Masters prior to the French Open. Might do some damage too. Any word on Rome ?

He has not entered Rome qualifying. Current cut off for the qualifying draw is 79 so he probably figured he would not make it. I fancy his chances to follow Aljaz in winning the Rome challenger which would make him unavailable for the masters anyway.

I am a little disappointed with Kyle's clay season schedule which was/is
Bucharest 250
Estoril 250
Rome Challenger
Nice 250 (qualifying)
French Open
I can understand him wanting to play some weaker events to try and ensure decent points on what is possibly his best surface but like you I would have liked to see him try qualifying for at least one of the Masters Series events. The final cut for Madrid qualifying was 184 so there was never going to be a problem making the cut
I look at that list and think "what a sensible schedule for someone of his age and experience"
I guess its all opinions!
That's certainly a valid point and I understand why he has scheduled as he has, I would just like him to have pushed the boat out a little and tried qualifying for one Masters Series event.
