Week 13 - Challenger (€42,500 +H ) - St Brieuc, France (hard)

I agree, a ranking that results in direct entry into Wimbledon/any GS is an important landmark more relevant to me than top 100. 100 is just a number DE to GS a significant paycheck

WR 100 in tennis is great though in that it is both an aspiration of so many players and is generally just above the point that guarantees a Slam DE, especially where 16 qualifiers ( and 8 WCs ). The Slam DE mark is of course a bit of a moveable feast, with PRs and withdrawals, but 100 has virtually got all bases covered.

And the other marks undoubtably do count with many players, some more than others, but many will be part of medium to longer term aims and plans as well as landmarks cared about. Maybe a few couldn't care re say 199, 200 or 201 but I would think a minority.

Is Guez the least inspiring top 200 player of all time? Never fails to send me to sleep.

First set won. Ed had plenty of chances to break. Lots of long rallies and action on the ball, but breaker was very comfortable.

Ed digs himself out of trouble from 0-30 and holds for 3-2*

Ed had chances in that game including a BP but Guez holds on.

*4-4

... and having missed his chances, he then gets broken. Guez will serve for the match.

Well, Guez won that doing what Guez does - playing percentage tennis.

And Ed lost it doing what Ed does - snatching at his shots at key moments.

Shame.....

(NB Guez's service action is a disgrace - I don't know how the French federation allow it.....)

Nothing to scare Dan though.....

I thought his ball toss was really strange, often throwing it out instead of straight up. Thoroughly uninspiring player, keeps the ball in court, playing the angles and waiting for the error.

The result today was disappointing for two reasons.

1) Ed lost
2) I have to sit and watch Guez again tomorrow  cry
