Today's win should make sure of a new career high , probably just outside the top 300 - Alex would definitely break into the top 300 on Monday week if he managed to win the Final and he has no more points to defend until early June
SF: (4) Alex Ward WR 319 beat (6) Clément Geens (BEL) WR 390 (CH 383 in Mar) by 6-1 5-7 6-3
FINAL: (4) Alex Ward WR 319 v (7) Pedro Sousa POR WR 475 (CH 199 in 2013)
H2H 2-1 but the wins were some time ago (in 2008 and 2012), while Sousa won in 3 sets in Portugal last year.

Good stuff. If Alex wins the final he will be up to 167 points, level on points with Liam Broady as GB # 7/8 at about WR 290.
I believe that the qualifying entry date for Roland Garros is 4 weeks before the first Monday of the main draw, ie 25/04, so although even the title this week and say another good week would no doubt leave him initially fairly short, it might be worth entering and hanging in for late withdrawals considering his proficiency on clay.
Well done Alex. Would love to see him take on some challengers soon so he could potentially move up the rankings more quickly. But for the time being, we can be happy that today's victory should improve slightly his CH ranking. In fact, where his ranking is concerned, it appears that for the time being he is using the Team Sky approach of "marginal Geens". IGMC

I must admit, I found it surprising that he was so close to taking out his career high when he hasn't played many Challengers in the last year (I still think of the time he was qualifying for clay court Challengers and winning the odd main draw match as his best period to date), but then I noticed quite how many Futures he had won in the last three quarters of 2015 when I wasn't paying such close attention as I usually do. Turns out this is his 8th Futures final since early last June, including 5 (hopefully soon to be 6!) titles.
