Week 12 - France F7 ($10,000) - Villers-lès-Nancy (hard - indoor)

Yesterday, in the doubles, Evan+ put out the second seeds  :

R1: Martin BERAN (CAN) / Evan HOYT (GBR)     6-3 6-4     Andre MIELE (BRA) / Alexandre TSUCHIYA (BRA) [2]

In the singles:

R1: Evan Hoyt WR 564 v (q) Boris Fassbender (FRA) WR 1346, just turned 18.

If he wins this, it's ye ol' Swissman, Bossel, in the next round....

Edit:  couldn't resist adding the accent in "lès" (meaning"near", of course)!  wink

I knew that accent would be coming, SC - I was sitting back waiting

(For some reason I can't get that accent to work on this site - and don't care much about them anyway)

But I'm glad you stepped in - it makes it 'right and proper'.

Live scores has Evan's match missing but the ITF site shows that Evan won 7-6(5) in the 3rd. Great win.

I hope that's right but I can't get excited - how many times have they got those scores the wrong way round in the past...?

It was previously just showing on the OoP page, but they have now added the result to the drawsheet showing Evan in the QFs. So I think we can take it as correct. (Hopefully)

L16: Evan Hoyt WR 564 beat (3) Adrien Bossel (SUI) WR 332 (CH = 262 last August) 6-1 0-6 7-6(5)  biggrin

Terrific win by Evan and he even had time for a quick "siesta" in the middle of the match.  wink

Well done, Evan !

On top of which, having beaten the second seeds, Evan and Beran have won their next doubles match too and are through to the semis.

Unseeded Frenchman Wang in the next round, but he did get up to WR 265 in 2014

Evan's opponent, Tak Wang, is a guy made good against the odds - not very tall, from a 'humble' background (his dad works in a restaurant for pretty much minimum wage), had a whole year out due to a wrist injury, and is living hand to mouth, playing interclubs in France, Switzerland and Germany (as well as borrowing from friends etc.) to make ends meet.

When he made the top 300, I think he got a grant of £3000 or so, but nothing else from the federation (and I'm 99% sure that'll have been stopped now).

Evan lost 6-2 6-4 to Tak Wang.

As above, it's a shame but, if he were to lose to anyone, I'm glad it was Tak - you can't help wishing him well.
