What a shame. Kyle broken after about 5 deuces. Would have been so different had he "challenged" on that Ace out wide at 30-15. Called out, but Hawkeye showed it caught the line.
Impressed by Kyle tonight. Novak was of course incredible, but the Brit went toe-to-toe with the Serb on several rallies, and if he were just a little more precise and accurate (and patient) with that forehand and improve his backhand to a solid defensive shot, then he's definitely in with a shot of moving up and up and up.
Not at all disgraced by the World Number One. Thoroughly enjoyable and entertaining match.
And, Kyle Edmund can say now that's he's broken the serve of the world number one. Not bad.
I think the commentators for once were about right. There were plenty of times in that match where you could see the massive potential that Kyle has as he stood toe to toe with Djokovic. There were other times where you could clearly see what he needs to work on to make it to the top. It seems that Djokovic was pretty impressed and was generous with his words and applause at the end.
Despite the result being as everyone expected, the match left me in a very upbeat mood as Kyle was very competitive throughout (if we ignore the early nerves) and he can take an enormous amount of credit for his performance. Far more positives than negatives for me.
Well played Kyle. Chance to get your own back in DC later in the year.
Other than yourself in the Calabasas thread that is Bob
But seriously, not a bad account of himself at all, seen Muzza take worse beatings from the master. Djoko was clearly impressed and I have great respect for him too for giving Kyle some words of encouragement.
To add a further bit of perspective on this match, Kyle won 51 points to Novak's 68. More than respectable against the absolute machine that is Djokovic
