No points for these matches though? Unless they qualify?
As Katie has less than 16 counters, those +20 points for her, are mitigated because she has 12 points falling off from her $10K win this time last year. So, in reality, +8 points, so far. At her ranking though, this is already good enough for over 50 places rise, and in to the top 500.
Naomi's lowest replaceable score is 15 points, so she is currently +5. Normally in the top 100, that doesn't count for much, but a lot of players around her have already lost, so could mean 3 or 4 places already.
Wow, well done Katie. Saw her at Sunderland with philwrig eek out a win over an Italian girl, now beating top 100 players. We both said it was on her racket at the time. So pleased for her. Time to get excited about this wonderful talent.
So far this year, Samantha Crawford has beaten Belinda Bencic (No.14 at the time) and Andrea Petkovic (No.24), but lost to a player outside the top 600.
Crawford is #35 in the Road to Singapore but that is heavily skewed by her great run in Brisbane; her results have been no great shakes since then but clearly it would be another big upset if Katie were to beat her today. Crawford was bagelled in her first set yesterday so, with Katie's 1-6, could be a battle of the slow starters today! GL Katie :)
Thanks paulsi, IF and strongbow. I must of been thinking of lower tier comps or something and not getting any qualy points/money.
I must admit I'm a little more confused now between IF and strongbow's posts as to Katie's net points (Not sure where you get the 28 for the calc for strongbow).
In any case I'm really exited about Katie and happy for Naomi. Also hopeful that Laura can make the best of this WC.
Think it might be the men you are thinking about Helen who often get zero points from Q1 (albeit a Q1 win gets 8 here; and the ITFs are generally pretty frugal for the women too); think Strongbow may be 2 points out having possibly double-counted the 2 points for a Q1 loss.
Yep, 10 ranking points for Laura come what may; and, who knows, she could do a Rybarikova here and rise from nowhere to reach the SFs! ;)
5 of ours in the MD would be very nice so here's hoping :)

I think the LTA/AELTC can justify giving Katie MD wildcards to Birmingham, Nottingham, Eastbourne and Wimbledon, which should be a big boost to her ranking.
I assume Katie will use the remaining two JE's before the grass season as with the grass wildcards, her ranking should be high enough to get into 25K main draw especially if she wins for matches in between.
At least we all agree now that we can only have a maximum of 5 players in the MD ;)
Disappointingly tv coverage doesn't start until tomorrow, so we won't get an idea of whether Laura's been able to find improvements to her game since IW. Flipkens slice may cause her problems today, but hopefully she can make that match competitive.
Thanks so much to all those who added score updates yesterday - I didnt get to follow it live so really enjoyed reading your posts one by one - what a turn around by Katie - such an encouraging result to see.
