I have to admit when I tuned in and saw Katie 0-3 0-30 down having been broken twice I thought that wild cards of this nature do a young player no good at all.
I have never really believed in the argument that you shouldn't give young players a chance in tournaments in case they get thrashed. If they do get well beaten, they can use it as a lesson in what they need to improve. Katie got beaten 2 & 0 just a few days ago and it doesn't seemed to have knocked her confidence too much!
Samantha Crawford in R2 will provide Katie with a pretty much polar opposite test to Lauren Davis.

From an opponent of 5 ft 2 in, to one of 6 ft 2½ in. Officially, only Kurumi Nara is shorter than Davis, and only Akgul Amanmuradova is taller than Crawford!
WOW, fantastic stuff; what a turn around from Katie :D
I had a sneaking feeling that she was in with a shout if she kept battling as 39 minutes is not your average 1-6 set duration.
Solid win for Naomi, nothing more than we expect these days, again another player who really performs on the bigger stage. It would be great to have 5 !! players in the MD.
