At least he went one game better than Dodig did in the semis!!
Disappointing result but it looks like Granollers was well and truly on one the last couple of days
Hoping Aljaz gets the news that he (and we) hope for from his appeal, and gets it swiftly too
Great result for AB. thought this was a real potential banana skin, but hopefully he can keep winning. Not too long until the hearing too?
If he loses the hearing and cannot represent GB, I would be in favor of this forum giving him less attention, or even not reporting on him. Could put it to vote if and when the times comes.
The vote is about DC participation, not about playing under the British flag. So NO! he is now and remains British, so in my book we just support him as we would anybody else in the tournaments he chooses to take part in.
I find this rather odd, and it is hard to draw parallels with other sports.
In football, Arteta the Everton/Arsenal footballer, has never played for Spain and has a British passport. But due to football rules cannot play for England football team.... Do we still report on him like we do a english footballer in the league.
Also the N.Broady argument is stupid, as she has the legality to represent GB. If someone does not even have the right to represent their country, (regardless if they are good enough, or even if they want too) how on earth can we consider them British?
Let's say Greg Ruds, he moved here, and by law was able to represent us. Even if he had say, no i cannot be arsed, I would have still classed him as British player, as legally he can play for us, just chooses not too.
Where as this Bedene may not even have the choice. Why is he unable to represent us in the Olmypics? Surely that has nothing to do with DC? THAT IS IOC rules???
I think it's having made yourself available to represent your country - the thesis being that you're not responsible for being chosen, but you are responsible for being willing to participate. Could be wrong on that, though.
Really, though, ITF. First you made Mr Bedene travel to Prague (I think it was) in order to tell him that you wouldn't consider his application at that time, and then you force him to 'attend' by Skype on the morning of a final? I understand that these meetings are set way in advance and probably have finite time and long agendas, but I hope they made every effort to accommodate and only wound up in this position because there were no alternatives ... it was a pretty rotten situation.
Bottom line is that he is British now whether certain board members like it or not. He has already played his part re Davis Cup by coming in as a practice partner for Andy on clay before last years final and again hitting with the team before the Japan tie. I intend to support him, post about him and treat him like any other British player. You are welcome to ignore him and me if it offends you so much.

As far as I'm concerned, Bedene is representing Britain every time he plays a match and there's GBR next to his name.
This isn't a Davis Cup Forum.
And if you were going to look at the Davis/Fed Cup as a key criteria, a certain logic would say that wanting to play for your country but not being allowed to (Bedene) should rank higher than being allowed to play for your country and not wanting too (Naomi).
Personally, I have absolutely no problem with either (as in, Bedene is at the mercy of the ITF and Naomi must make her own decisions, based on a whole heap of factors).
Net, net: if they're GBR, they're British and belong on a British tennis forum.

I am struggling to see why you feel this post was necessary as I haven't seen anything on here to suggest that anyone has a problem with Aljaz or thinks he should be treated any differently on this forum to any other British player.

Struggle no longer...
