Not the way she would have wanted to win I'm sure, but a great opportunity as her SF opponent will be unseeded. Again, well done for getting to the point where she could benefit from a bit of good luck.

24pts gathered this week in singles, so right on the cusp with 55pts.

That's Gabi's best-ever points haul from a single event (finally bettering the 20 points she got for winning QR1 at Wimbledon in 2014) - hopefully she will be in the top 500 when these points go on after Miami fortnight - up over 150 places anyway

Yes ... and the person she double bagelled had in the two prior rounds sent out both Ksenia Lykina and the Romanian first seed. And in the previous round, Ms Abanda herself had dismissed Oceane Dodin 1 and 2. Seems to be on a bit of a roll.

If Gabi makes it into the top 500 one spin-off will be that she has the option of entering qualifying for the French Open Juniors (top 400 and she could enter the main draw as a direct entry)
