Very commendable for Katie to take that second set and come back after a disastrous start. Despite the dominant tie-break, she won three fewer points than her opponent so she needed to grind it out and hang in there and wait for the opportunity. Just one more win saves all but one of the points won from her first ITF title last season as well. The French player looks an intimidating prospect but her record this season hasn't been particularly amazing. Only made the QF of a draw once this year, but that was at a 50k.
Great win for Gabi as well earlier and by the sounds of it, a good chance to take advantage of a dwindling difficulty half of the draw.

Mexico continues to favour our ladies in the ITF, as it did on the WTA.
Two good wins today against very talented opposition, both dispatched with impressive efficiency.
Good test for Katie next, perhaps Coup Droit - vastly better informed generally, but doubly so about the French contingent - will disagree, but I find that Hesse despite high potential, has a game that can lack focus sometimes, and subsequently blows hot and cold. The hot is quite hot though.
Gabi today earned the seemingly good break in the form of the local wildcard for the next round.
Good result for Katie, particularly to win in two by playing every point in the second set and letting a poor start go. Psychologically easy to talk about doing, challenging to do and the sort of resilience that will allow her to be competitive against players ranked outside the top 80. Hesse took three sets to beat Zhao last week.
