Interesting match up for Katie against Carol (Emily A's future team mate at Stanford) who is arguably the best you can get in U.S. College tennis going in with a junior CH of 9 (but at 18).
She lost in the NCAA final in May to the other highly ranked college player Jamie Loeb who plays at UNC, junior CH of 30 (at 18) but in fairness got Bencic'd twice at Wimbledon (QF) and at the Orange bowl in her final year.
Looking forward to it and it will be fascinating to compare the progress of the three players as they dip their toes more deeply into professional tennis this year. Katie has every chance but she is up against a sharp cookie who can play a bit.

Not bad draws at this level so here's hoping they can both pick up 6 points in R1 :)
And being in opposite halves of the draw march onwards towards a meeting ;)

Good info, thanks. I think "Bencic'd" might be an adjective we use quite a lot over the coming years.

not when she gets Rybarikova'd like last night - maybe puts Laura's performance in perspective
From 0-3 in the second set, Gabi has it back on serve.
Having watched Kingsley a few times at Maui, and then Midland, this is encouraging from Gabi, because the American looked a very good prospect.
7-6(4) *4-5
That win should get Gabby into the low 600's and it looks like she is staying in the Mexico/US for a few more tournaments. So a chance for more points.
