Hard to read too much into this week for Evo except to say that it was a job well done. The run of players he beat was more like a futures tournament than a challenger but you can only beat the players in front of you. Hopefully he can get down to Miami in double quick time.

I think the match against Shapovalov was pretty high quality from both players.
In fact "that" point in the aforementioned match has made the main page on the ATP website.

Dan will be approx 120 points short of the Top 100 and only has 20 points to defend between now and Mid July. So he needs approx 140 points over the next 3 1/2 months to crack that milestone. I am backing him to do it.

I would love to see him do it over the next 8 weeks and make it directly into the Wimbledon main draw. Obviously he will get a wild card if he falls short but it would be great for him to have made it entirely on his own efforts.
With you completely, Dan has from an observers perspective had an excellent year and it would be very satisfying to see him reap the fruits of his labour in the form of qualifying for Wimbledon directly, the wild cards detract from what an achievement that is.
Really enjoyed watching the semi, Shapovalov is already some player and between them produced some thoroughly enjoyable tennis. The crowds were excellent particularly to watch Denis, even enjoyed the music at change overs (a topic so rich for discussion it probably needs a thread of its own although unlikely to rival the epic " ISF banned by mistake" tradegy that is presently unfolding)
Great week for Dan puts him in a good mindset for Miami.
I wonder it that is a factor in the decision not to play Miami - if the field at the challenger he's down for next week (in France I think) is as weak as last week's he has a great chance of a new career high which I'm sure was a personal target at the start of the year. Perhaps he can feel that he would be wearing himself out to chasing to Miami and then to France and that this would risk this?
I don't know. Personally I would have really loved to have seen him look to keep the winning habit going in Miami and give himself a chance f playing against some bigger names given how well tends to do against them. I find the decision a bit odd.
Well done to him anyway on last week's win and the incredible rankings improvements pretty good consistency of level he has achieved in the last few months!
