Terrific win for Dan. If he keeps playing like this, the Top 100 must beckon later this year. Really pleased for him.
But a shout-out too for Shapovalov. What a tremendous young talent. Just wish he would stop bouncing the ball between his legs before serving - a la John Isner. I just find it really annoying. Don't know why.
That was an extremely tight final set. The points score was 32-29 in favour of Shapovalov. Shap seems way taller than the 6.0" his profile says - must have done some growing! He has a real abundance of power.
Credit to Dan for absorbing so much power and doing just enough to get the W. He was very focussed. Allez!
And now for the next GB veteran vs teen prodigy match ... good luck to Mr Corrie. Interesting in a week when GB players are trying to have three in non-UK Challenger finals for the first time in yonks that all three have had to get past QF or SF opponents who were under 19. Really does feel as if there is a changing of the age profile at this level.
Edit: Just looked at Mr Bedene's next opponent and realised that he's a teenager too! (though at least he's 19). Makes the point even more forcefully. At least if Mr Bedene makes it through, he doesn't face yet another one - the other potential opponents are Granollers and Dodig.

Mr Corrie begins and wins the 1st game. Hope it continues! Edit: And it does - he breaks the youngster with a beautiful passing shot for the final point. Haven't seen him play in a while - he's looking even better than I remembered, especially on returns. Alas, off to other things.

And the third tyro seen off by a season British campaigner! We also have our totally unexpected (at the start of the week) all-Brit final, with Ed putting the pesky, tenacious young Dutchman in his place! Not a bad showing for a lucky loser! Divided loyalties time, though!
