Not sure what to say about this. I only heard the match, and it seemed like UE after UE. No clue what his head space was, but I am disappointed, I thought he'd stopped doing that.
Oh well roll on Miami. Who would have thought Jo would be our last singles representative in IW!
Bad news for Andy Murray overnight, the Scot makingan early exit from the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells with a surprise loss to Argentine world number 53 Federico Delbonis.
The British number one, playing his first ATP tournament since becoming a father last month (though he hasplayed in a Davis Cup tie), was beaten 6-4 4-6 7-6 (7-3) in the third round.
The Scot, 28, was well short of his best, squandering a 4-1 third-set lead before losing the decisive tie-break.
"I just struggle in these conditions. I don't know why it is, said a frustrated Murray, referring to the windy weather. "It's a slight mentality thing, but I seem to do it here every single year."
And the verdict of Russell Fuller, its Tennis Correspondent:
'He should have sewn things up'
"Close followers of Andy Murray's desert fortunes have seen similar performances in the past, but, from 4-1 up in the deciding set, the world number two knows he should have comfortably sewn things up.
The drop shot, with which Murray has thrilled and frustrated in equal measure over the years, was overused in the closing stages - a sign of Murray's lack of confidence from the back of the court in these unique conditions.
The ball flies through the desert air and can bounce up quite high - different conditions to Miami, where Murray will be heading for his next challenge."
Well, the umpire had an absolute mare in my opinion in the first set:
At *3-4 30-40, Andy hit a first serve, Delbonis fired a return that would have been a winner but was called out. He then challenged the SERVE which was OUT then hit a winner off the second serve.
Murray really struggled in the wind and deserved to lose, tbf.
Was the 'Miserable Murray' bit the headline. Seems abit harsh if it was.
Yes, above a shot of him trudging off court. I read the"miserable" as a description of his (presumed) mood, i.e. sad, downcast, disconsolate, dejected... rather than of his performance (disgraceful, lamentable..., though if Jaffa's to be believed, that alternative would also apply... ), so I don't see it as harsh.
