I'm not sure Novak's going to play anyway, as his focus is on racking up more GS titles, and of course Olympic gold which he hasn't got.
Yes, good point. I can see Novak not playing and even more now. Been surprised that Andy has sounded as committed to playing as he has ( before the announcement of the venue anyway ). He certainly doesn't like switching back and forward to clay and maybe Serbia reckon that he won't, which at the moment for singles would leave us with Kyle and err ?

Right now, it would have to be Dan Evans, everyone else is either ineligible (Bedene), playing badly (Ward, Broady, Klein?), or too weak to have a chance against Serbia's 2nd tier.

Andy is fully committed irrespective of surface, so I think their cunning plan will backfire.
And I understand that Jamie Murray's gong is also for being World No 1 and winning the Australian Open. And that Leon Smith's is for leading the whole team in brilliant fashion. But there was one other player on the DC team who won a crucial point - and I would have loved to see James Ward get an MBE.

This is a pretty annoyingly timed tie. If Andy chooses not to play it means Evo will almost certainly withdraw from the ATP 500 in Washington the following week. Clay court in Serbia on Sunday and then hard court in Washington on Tuesday isn't quite impossible but it is far from ideal.
From the Beeb's rolling Wimbledon news page at 13.42:
"We will respect Murray's Davis Cup decision"
Andy Murray was one of five players named by Great Britain for this month's Davis Cup tie with Serbia in Belgrade, although the world number two will not confirm his involvement until after Wimbledon.
Britain's Davis Cup captain Leon Smith spoke to BBC Radio 5 live:
"Its a brutal schedule. To turn around from Wimbledon, fly over to another country and change surface, it's not easy."
Will Murray play in the Davis Cup?
"He wanted to be named in the initial team. He loves the competition. At the moment the most important thing for him is Wimbledon. He has to see how he feels. If he says he can't do this, then of course we'll respect it."
