Good job Kyle did the business: Tipsy saw off Dino by 6-2 3-6 7-5.
Not entirely sure we can use a 3-set dead rubber as evidence of what the result would have been if live, but certainly glad it was done and dusted before the 5th match. I dont cope well with tension!
Even Dino seemed to improve a little. Superb weekend of tennis, so many positives for GB. Pleased we'll face the Argies at home, this could have been a tense affair away even after Jeremy Clarkson had smoothed over our differences..
Well that was an excellent performance against a decent clay courtier in his own backyard and baying mob.
Kyles fear hand and hammer serve have now been well and truly outed to the wider general British tennis fan and terrestrial pundit!
Kyle won easily but was well and truly tested as he walked along a razor edge between a glorious three set victory and potential five set heart break.
Great for the team, to have a number 2 player who can do damage behind Andy and an elite doubles pair will give us more looks and ways to win against even the very best teams in the world group. Great for wider team morale particularly Dom and Kyle who must now feel they really belong.
I must admit I rather missed the "baying mob" My TV must have very selective pick up.
They very occasionally interjected out of place. But c'mon this is Davis Cup. For most of the three days the match lacked atmosphere from the home side and it was good in some ways to see it stepped up a bit and Kyle put under that pressure. And well done him.
It emerged afterwards that Edmund was fighting the onset of cramp in the third set.
This is why it was so important for Kyle to finish it when he did.
That is a bit of an ongoing concern. Kyle wasn't running down balls as much in the third set to conserve energy and his serve certainly lost its pop.
He said after the Davis Cup final that it wasn't really a physical issue ( and it probably isn't entirely ) and he and his team were looking into all areas such as what he was eating before matches.
He played very well today and his talent is there for all to see, but he may well have been a TB loss from another disheartening loss involving cramping. So there looks still a real issue to be looked at.
Only surprise there was Coric/Sock (but then the first day's surprise had been Sock/Cilic, so ....) The Bryans are no longer what they once were, and when Croatia subbed in Cilic, the doubles became a risk. Isner has an 0-5 record against Cilic ...
On a more GB note. Hurrah, hurrah, and hurrah again for the team. And especially for Kyle Edmund - what a performance. Amazing.
I hope you don't mind this, BiS, but I can't ever really think of Kyle Edmund without thinking of your early enthusiasm for him. And so I went back and read your first posts ... which seemed so prescient as to be worth quoting. How are you on the stock market? Currency exchanges?
Cartagena, Week 9 (2012): "If I had to some up what I saw of Kyle's game last week, I could do it in 2 words. "AWESOME POWER". Go Kyle. He is definitely one to watch"
Murcia, Week 8 (2013): "I had the pleasure of chatting with Kyle (and ... his coach) for an hour or so as we waited for his match. He strikes me as a very mature young man. The phrase "old head on young shoulders" was never more appropriate. And I think this is one of his strongest assets as he doesn't let adversity get to him during a match and seems to play his best tennis during those pressure moments. He spoke very sensibly about his progress, his motive for sticking where possible to clay courts ... Exactly a year ago, I first saw Kyle play. It was on the same court, as an unranked "kid" against Mark Vervoort in the qualies here in Murcia. He won 6-0 6-4 that day. So convincing was he, that I made my first ever post on this forum in order to state that Kyle Edmund was "one to watch". One year later, I stand by that statement."

I guess it's the definition of baying. I agree that it's part of DC to have a hostile home crowd (some more hostile than others), but to have them whistle continually in the middle of a service action isn't on. Surely you didn't miss that? On the second day Pascal Maria actually gave Dom another first serve (when he'd already hit his second) because of that harassment.
