Two down, ONE to go: Kyle bags the second set by 6-4, having unfortunately failed to convert a set point in the ninth game which would have allowed him to start the thrid set on his own service.
4th rubber: Kyle Edmund (GBR N° 1) WR 67 (= CH) defeated Dusan Lajovic (SRB N° 1) WR 81 (CH = 57 in October 2014) by 6-3 6-4 7-6(5)
Have to say that the result never really looked in doubt, despite the service break in the tenth game of the third set, the fact that he was taken to a tie-break, the see-sawing in the tie-break & the Serbian fans' best efforts to knock Kyle off his stride in the second set! What a prospect! What a forehand! Lajovic looked completely demoralised towards the end, though he perked up a bit after he broke back as Kyle served for the match. And after hearing his interview with Jonathan Overend (?) yesterday following his win against Tipsy on Friday, what a thoroughly likeable & level-headed young man!
Saved two set points and was a mini-break down in the tie-break, but turned it around. Great resilience. Great win. He's stepped up to the plate brilliantly this weekend.
Never really in doubt ?! Not from where I was sitting, maybe you've overdosed on those positivity pills I was sending you, SC
Kyle's serve had lost most of its zip towards the end, no doubt as was said tension affected and in the game at *5-6 with its SPs against and at *2-4 in the TB I was at least thinking that set might be lost and there was a real pick me up job needed in a match that would then have been right back in the balance.
But Kyle got through, and great credit to him for that and what was always going to be a good experience for him going forward is a winning experience. He was the man this weekend, there was certainly pressure on him, particularly at the end today, and he came through
For most of the match played really well, served well, fearhand working great, very solid and his movement is the thing that seems to me to have most improved this year.
