Overall this year Heather's results have been really not too bad, and that's now 3-4 against top 70 players ( all but one of these matches, one of her wins, being 3 setters ) and 2-0 straight sets for her two Fed Cup matches against players outside the top 200. There seems some impressions abroad that it has been much worse than that would indicate.
The facts are that she continues to be generally very competitive against a pretty good level of opponent. But she sure seems to have phases when it all goes a bit awry, notably from some good positions and ultimately losing some close matches, which she for long times looked good for the win. That is putting her on the backfoot within matches and a bit overall within her year. But she doesn't actually seem to be that far away.
The strange case of Heather Watson. But still well done on the win.

Important win for Heather, she has ended up on the wrong side of far too many close ones recently, so pleasing that she finished the match so strongly in the third set today.
Babos/Hercog do not play until tomorrow, so Heather will have the extra days rest, and as she isn't playing doubles this week either, hopefully that will stand her in good stead.
Other than Oz, the past 9 months have been rather grim. Sad to see, not sure how much higher these two can go as a pair. Seem to have plateuxed and in a bit of a rut.
I think they've gone a little bit off the boil. My personal opinion is that they were used to winning regularly at Challenger level, and found ways to win even when not at their best. But at tour level if you have an off day you simply don't win, losing affects confidence, and then the results tail off. They didn't look quite as good this year when I saw them at the FedCup, Joss has also had to deal with a ' minor' back problem. I'd love to see them get back to the form from Notts last year as I'm one of their biggest supporters. So fingers crossed!!!
