That's a career best ranking scalp for Rhett, I believe

His R1 draw looks pretty good until you dig a bit deeper:

L32: (Q) Rhett Purcell UNR v Jumpei Yamasaki (JPN) WR 1092 (CH 1059 last Sep)

Unfortunately, 18-year-old Yamasaki had a junior career high of 11 early last year and reached the semi-finals as a qualifier here last week.

For the record, Rhett saved SIX match points in the tenth game of the decider with the Japanese serving at 5-4. Not a bad way to win your first point...
