And then when that already super journey is over it's onto Indian Wells qualifying or not. I'll leave Naomi and Fitzy to best consider whether she'll be ready to go again or not.
With the comparatively later start for qualifying, SEs would never be an issue for Indian Wells, men or women, even without considering the different tournaments. Everyone can get there, however tired and / or jetlagged, it's for them to decide whether they want to be there.
All the best, whatever, and well done again.

What a win, very disappointed in myself in that I found out from errr Andrew Castle!!! Whilst watching the telly.
Although still very much nibbling at the fringes the DC win is definitely growing the depth of GB tennis reporting, Beechy interviewed primarily about his recent loss to Baker but even mentioned how Andy had prepared for the tie.
Here's hoping for a mention of the general ladies success this week in that from a depth perspective it has been the best day since 1978. Who knows with the arrival of Ms Swan and other young tyros over the next 2-3 years things may deepen further.
Naomi must go to IW because I say so; what do the players and the coaches know. I wouldn't dream of leaving the decision upto them. A first round qualifying loss should it happen should be celebrated with an "In and Out" burger and a day on a sun lounger with one of those tin foil reflective things round the neck to increase the skin damage to the face before slapping back on the factor 50 and getting back to working on the rest of her game. A strategy to deal with dubious line calls that motivates rather than distracts.
Unusually hoping that in this case GB gets a hiding In Koala Lumpa!

Given the lack of depth in the post Jo Durie era, there's more than a good chance that we would be talking best return for 30 years if they could squeeze in 2 more wins this week; here's hoping :)
And so it came to pass
Congrats to Naomi and Heather; who'd have thought it would be Jo who didn't make it through? That's sport for you!
So this week, I think we decided, is the best since 1978? And possibly arguably unique in that we have 2 SFs in 2 different tournaments?
If this carries on over the coming weeks I'm gonna have to change my name to Victim Of Reality Over Hope !

Naomi broken first game; 2 aces but won no other points; comfy hold this time though so hopefully the early nerves have settled; Bouchard looks to be on good form though and is winning almost all of the rallies at the moment
1-2*
Brilliant hold from 0-40...2nd serve ace, ace, unreturnable, wide serve and backhand volley put away, ace :D
3-4*
Needs to have a bit of success returning now :)
Naomi's groundstrokes have been really, really poor so far. But that serve is just sensational! (First time I've watched her in a long time this, just to clarify)
