Hope that's not too serious for Azarenka; but it clears the path for Jo all being well...
WTA intimated that Vika withdrew here, and has already done so from Monterrey next week, as much so that she could finalise and host a charity event in California, prior to Indian Wells, as for injury.
I read a report that Vika injured her left wrist in her R1 match, and that is the explanation for her withdrawal. Meanwhile Jo's just dropped her serve, not going to be an early night.
Lucic-Baroni dominates the second set, aggressively taking the game to Jo, and wraps it up with a third break of the set, meaning she will also have the advantage of first serve in the final set.
6-4 2-6
Mirjana so confident now, just swinging free, dismissing even Jo's first serves with clean winners. She's been having one of her purple patches for about 8 games now - the sort that blows players away.
Can only hope it wears off before the end, because at the moment Jo has no answer to the endless barrage. In that respect, she's in good company, over the years.
6-4 2-6 0-2*
Looks a bit like Jo from the other night, getting out hit, her 1st serve which is usually a potent weapon, making no impression at all. Unless Lucic implodes can't see a comeback tonight.
Yeah, no impression from Jo on any of her shots. She looks completely lightweight and not even a factor in the game. Poor stuff

I'd not go that far. M L-B has these days where she makes most everyone look awful. It's like playing Madison Keys at her most random. ou don't really make a mistake hardly touch the ball, and lose 1 & 0. Jo hasn't been great after the second set, by any means.
But... she has just recovered one break to stretch things out a bit. Needs to hold though... 6-4 2-6 *2-5
*30-30
After a long ish rally, Jo goes BH DTL for a winner, called out, questions the umpire, but its MP for Croatia...
Whic is saved, but yet another cannonball FH from Mirjana soon finds her with another.
Also denied! Deuce 2
Jo looks a fraction livelier, L-B a touch off her rolling boil. Really nice effort to hold there.
Still, a very long way to go however!
