Is it just my imagination or is Heather particularly bad in third set tiebreakers, in comparison to first or second set tiebreakers? I remember her losing one 7-0 recently and now a 7-1... What a shame after such a fight though with a score line of 110pts to 91pts she really had no business being in a third set tiebreak in the first place!!
In the last 52 weeks, Heather has played 15 TB. Overall, she is 5-10 In the first set, 2-5 In second sets, 2-2 In third sets, 1-3
In a deciding set - one that ends the match, either the second or third - she is now 3-4
Oh no. Playing good stuff in patches but confidence seems rock bottom. That will he another sore one. After Indian Wells her ranking will be a big drop.
It's a shame there are not big ITFs at the moment. She's losing very close matches to top 70 players, so in a weaker field I think she could build a little run and get some confidence.
Thanks IF. Sounds like it was pretty tense watching it. I hope Hev can get back to where she was. She such a great run a while back. I thought JoKo would inspire her, but seems not Maybe it's just more pressure, like a Robbo come back to haunt her when she thought she was at last top dog.
Hev's game is still there, but she's just lacking a bit of confidence, I could tell from talking to her a little at FedCup and watching her match against AVU, I think finding the right coach, who has a positive mindset will work wonders. Other than IW, not too much to defend over the forthcoming months.
It's usually the headspace with the British players (or maybe that's general). We have great facilities, but as we all know the game is so mental. Jo's mental coach is worth a fortune.
Its sad to see the loss of form for Heather Watson. This year has been dreadful so far, its hard to know whats happened to her game but she's likely to drop out of the top 100 soon. I think she needs to go back to what she did well before, her game is based on sound defense and her quickness around the court. Perhaps she's trying to become a different player but simply doesn't have the sustained power of shot or accuracy to become that more attacking player. Its no shame to stick to what you do best. I know she does go through these up and down spells. I really hope she can make it back into the top 50 very soon. She has a lovely personality and it would be great to see her back really enjoying her tennis again.
