That wasn't very convincing at all, but Jo managed to eke it out which was the main thing. Anett should really have won, she was dictating the play, and that 4th game in the final set was pivotal. Anett missed a couple of sitters after setting up the point, and then basically handed the next 3 games to Jo with error after error. Jo's normal weight of shot just wasn't there, but her greater level of consistency and new found belief got her over the line. Hopefully Jo can find a couple of extra gears as she moves forward. As for Anett, great talent and someone I know well after spending some time with her in Ilkley last year, hope she can have a great season, but this was one match that she should have won.

It makes me smile that Jo is now having the 'star' effect on players, that psychologically she's one to beat now. I must admit, I never thought that would happen to her, and I'm incredibly pleased for her. Also that despite being well under par, she somehow managed to get the W.
Jo, currently WR 26 could pass up to 3 players this week. Indeed she would pass all 3 ( Keys, Stephens and Pavlyuchenkova ) if she won the title this week. Stephens and Pavlyuchenkova are the #2 and #3 seeds in Acapulco ( Azarenka is #1 seed ).
She could be overtaken by up to 3 from Doha, but probably realistically only Petkovic.
