From afar it seems like Naiktha Bains hasn't kicked on as well as might have been anticipated (which might be a bit of a relief for the LTA). Has she had injuries?

I watched a fair bit of her match at Surbiton (pretty sure it was) last summer - I wasn't as impressed as I expected to be. But that was only half of one match, so hardly an in-depth view.....
I've always thought that with her forehand she has a big weapon, I watched her at Ilkley last year and was quite impressed, I think she'll definitely get inside the top 200, but getting into the top 100 won't be easy. She maybe lacks a little bit physically, but she's a lovely girl, and the family have given up a lot for her career, so I'm really hoping she can get into the top 100 at some stage. She's never really been part of the Tennis Australia setup, so has no strong ties there.
She may have been flattered a bit by the scoreline. There was at least one very long game in the first set ( 20 point 3rd game ) and some close games and breaks back and forth in the second set to the extent that I was pretty pleased to see Freya break at 5-3* for the win.
Qualifying and reaching R2 again takes Freya to 97 points, currently equivalent to WR 375. So she will no doubt take out her CH 388 ( from November ) on Monday week. Onwards towards the top 300 ...
Only 6 points ( 4 due off in March, 2 at the start of April ) to defend before August.

R2: (Q) Freya Christie WR 401 lost to (3) Ya-Hsuan Lee (TPE) WR 218 (CH 211 19/10/15) 6-4 6-4
Freya made quite a comeback from *1-5 down in the second set, a game in which she saved at least two MPs. She held, broke and held again and at 4-5* had 30-15* but alas lost the next 3 points for the match.
But another good week and looks a great effort against a player close to the top 200.
