Did anyone else notice that Dan kept getting caught in the same pattern of play? He would get stretched slightly to his forehand, hit crosscourt a little too short then attacked with a forehand up the line to his backhand which he always chipped crosscourt to and got picked off with a backhand volley. Every time. I know a chip cross court is the percentage play but if you do it every time and don't even try lobbing or hitting over a pass then it really takes the pressure off your opponent. A little adjustment like that probably would have been the difference in the second set.
Unfortunately I didn't see the match. It is disappointing for Dan to have consecutive 1st round losses, but they were both unlucky draws. At least he'll be fresh for his trip to the States. Does anybody know what his plans are? As well the Masters series events in Indian Wells and Miami, there are plenty of $100k or bigger Challengers he could enter.
And they win it 6-4 7-6(6). Well done! Turned on the live stream just in time for the penultimate point. Almost worth watching just to hear the French pronunciation of Skupski and Skupski.

Today's win guarantees them a net gain of 16 points (at least) on Monday and nothing else to come off until the 1st week in June. So the only way is up from here for the next three months.
The only obstacle now is that they have a full set of scoring events and their lowest scorer is a 29 pointer. So to improve their ranking further, they will have to make Challenger finals or win some ATP matches.
