Week 8 - Challenger (€42,500+H) - Cherbourg, France (hard)

Dan will never have an easier top seed to play.  Filip Krajinovic has retired hurt in his last 3 tournaments.  He last completed a match in October.  He prefers the clay. His last good tournament was on the dirt of Rome in September  where he got to the final of 50k challenger.    If Dan plays anything close to the best of his ability, I fancy his chances.

Me too and with a second round against a WC or a Q the draw could open up nicely for him.

Also I see his conqueror in Wroclaw, Chiudinelli, has gone on to win the tournament so looks like he was hot this week.

Indeed. Interesting doubles draw: yes, Brunstrom/Nielsen a banana skin, but there are plenty before then for both teams ... lots of unknown/unpredictable/potentially powerful combinations. Good luck to the brothers S!

R1: (1) Ken Skupski & Neal Skupski beat Aslan Karatsev & Adam Pavlasek (RUS/CZE) 6-3 6-4

A nice win. Incidentally, I turned to the LiveStream, hoping to catch some of the Skupskis' match and realised it was long over as I'd reversed the time difference. Saw a few minutes of Rublev v Novak instead. Rublev v impressive, even if having some first serve etc issues when I watched.

Dan plays this evening.  He is sixth match on with play starting at 10.00 local.  His match won't start before 18.30 local which is 19:30 GMT.   Perfect viewing time for us!   I'm going to check the odds for this one - given that Krajinovoc is the top seed and  a top 100 player, the bookies may have him as a heavy  favourite...

Wouldn't that be 17:30 GMT being France?

Ummm, yes you are right!  Why do so many people (especially myself!) have trouble adding or subtraction 1  from another number?   Having lived in France, you might expect me to have mastered this tricky bit of mathematics by now.....

I have been known to arrange to Skype my son at the agreed hour (French or English time) and then be two hours out because I've got it the wrong way round......feeble......

It's a pretty tedious serve slug-fest going at on the moment (between Olivetti and Nielsen).

It'll be nice to have a bit of actual tennis coming up

But lot-of-fun tie-break, that went to 14-12 !

And Freddie's won.

Which means it's over to Dan now ....

The standard of that tie break was shocking, seen better at girls U14 tournaments.
