Week 8 - ATP 500 Dubai, UAE - Hard

At least this suggests that Mr Ward's loss to the same player is not as great an issue as might have been thought. Both of our players can move on - and I hope that, having knocked out both Brits, Mr Skugor does well in the main tournament.

Pity - but that is a good team.

Skugor beat Gabashvili 6-2 6-3 which certainly suggests he is in top form. One of those things!

Indeed. And both Mr Ward (7) and Mr Edmund (6) took more games from him. Indeed, Mr Ward has taken more games from him than anyone else this week thus far. His next opponent (Mr Wawrinka or Mr Stakhovsky) may, however, better that record.

Jamie Murray is currently playing with Robredo.

Is 1-4 down against Peers and Kontinen.

Hope that was not too awkward a handshake at the end of the match.  Would love to see Peers continue to do well whenever he is not playing one of ours.

Good stuff. I had rathered feared that Jamie would be out in R1.

Yes, I'd wondered, too. Scratch pairings v established teams are always hard to call, no matter how good the players are as individuals.

QF: Jamie Murray & Tommy Robredo (ESP) CR 260 (2+258) vs Simone Bolelli & Andreas Seppi (ITA/ITA) CR 170 (22+148)

It is 2012 since Tommy Robredo was a top 100 doubles player and his CH 16 dates back to 2009 but he can clearly operate on a doubles court.

First on Court 1 at 4 pm local, noon GMT.

Poor old Dubai. First they have an injury-wracked draw with the women ... and now Djokovic is out, having fought but lost against an eye infection. So their SFs are Messrs Wawrinka, Kyrgios, Baghdatis and Lopez (F). Could be a lot worse - they're all good players. But you do feel for the organisers. And in the doubles, there are no seeds left: indeed, Jonny Marray's conquerors in qualifying, Vesely and Chung, are in the SFs too.
