Plays a much easier-looking No2 Seed than last week. On paper a rough draw, but I think she should be aiming to beat a seed or two at at least one tournament during her trip down under...
She won 7-6(4), but only half-hearted congratulations, and some concern, that she had such a terrible day on particularly second serve. She served for the match at 5-2, 5-4, and 6-5, and was broken each time. A total of 7 DFs, with no aces; and she won only 3 from 19 points on second service.
I've previously wondered whether Freya can sometimes shy away from the finishing tape; and this seemed doomed to turn into a heap of yippety-doo-dah at one point, when it apparently could have been a routine win.
Still, the draw opens up. Next victim, Arina Rodionova is ranked around 100 places lower than today's casualty, and is in poor form. I'd make Freya a strong favourite.
